    Statement from a client of B-1RD L.L.C.:

Gallo Vineyards Coastal has received the ISO 14001 Environmental Certificate and has been Certified for Implementing a Sustainable Management System. Outside auditors gave us high marks and certified that our vineyards meet detailed international standards (ISO 14001) for environmental management. Additionally, we’ve implemented a “Sustainable Management System” to make sure that our environmental performance continues to improve. Gallo Vineyards Inc. Coastal Winegrowing (GVIC) is the first vineyard organization in the world to receive this unique double certification. These efforts reflect the core values of E&J Gallo Winery to responsible stewardship.

The guiding principals of our business are the 3-E's of sustainable management (Economic, Social Equity, and Environmental). One of the many innovations, GVIC has implemented to meet their goal of operating sustainability, and reducing environmental footprint, is the use of falcons for starling control at their Two Rock Vineyard. This vineyard, for the past several years, received enormous bird pressure due to its location. The starlings would pick the seeds from the grapes prior to harvest, thusly reducing yield and initiating disease. Netting was utilized, bird scaring devices, even predator recordings played over loud speakers strung through out the vineyard during the harvest season. All these were costly measures, and only produced marginal results. During the 2004 growing season GVIC used B1-RD's Vineyard Falcons Crop Protection with great success. This move proved to be economically cost effective, socially equitable, due to no noise affect near by houses, and environmentally beneficial with no birds being killed and no emissions from operating equipment. It was a win in all areas of the 3 E's. GVIC has found no negative impact in implementing this operation and is planning on using Vineyard Falcons Crop Protection again in the 2005 season.
