In 2002, the Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group published "Vineyards in the Watershed: Sustainable Winegrowing in Napa County".
The 184-page book is a collection of case studies of Napa County farmers and their efforts to farm sustainably within a watershed. The book was written for the farming and non-farming community. "Vineyards in the Watershed: Sustainable Winegrowing in Napa County" is the product of a collaborative effort of local grapegrowers, public agencies, the Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group and the author, Juliane Porier Locke.
The book includes information on farming sustainably in a watershed, including wildlife protection, integrated pest management (IPM), water quality, vine health, stewardship efforts, farm workers, erosion control, weed management, cover crops and organic farming.
The publication of the book was made possible by donations from public and private agencies, private landowners, wineries, environmental groups, and a grant from the USDA-NRCS through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
The price of the book is $15.95 plus tax and shipping. To purchase a copy, contact Astrid Bock-Foster or Anna Mattinson at the
